I am listening for your call,
there are so many
things to hear and I am
easily distracted, but I
meant it when I said I’d
come if you needed me. I just
didn’t know what it
would be like to sit and
wait for your summons. I’ve
developed an acute sense of
hearing. I listen to
the birds and to the traffic
and to the wind in the trees,
and little noises around the
house like water running
or the dog’s toenails on
the wood floor, but I
never hear you. We should
have a trial run just for
fun sometimes, a mock crisis.
You can call and I’d
come over and see what it’d
be like. It would
punctuate this boredom.
