I have been haunted by ghosts before,
I can do it again, I managed
to outlast them before.
Yours will cling to me, an icy grip
on my spine, but he will tire of it,
get bored, wander off –
a pretty girl will walk by –
this is your ghost, after all – and he
will be diverted, begin to think
what he’s doing to me is not so fun.
Days will go past without him coming by,
though his visits, less frequent, will
be no less poignant,
I will feel him clamp around my soul
and will ache from the loss of you,
but I have done this before.
Your ghost is less terrifying, less tenacious
than some I have known.
I have been haunted by ghosts before,
I am not afraid.
