diamond like the street light

glows and catches on the points

of the snow

it is a white night

still and silent

I’m cold

as we walk in the street

in the hollow vibration

of the thick quiet

padded underneath, our

feet make little impression

it’s a night of mocking

laughing at our small lives

reaching icy fingers into

our dreams

take me to the river, I want to see the willows

full of snow and dripping heavy

branches into the dark void

where the water lies frozen

and the birds hide

the streetlights shine a magic

ring of jewel color

I am afraid of tomorrow and

the cold light
